Worship is the most important thing we do here at Prescott
United Methodist Church. Through our regular worship services, the word
of God is lifted up, the
fellowship of believers is strengthened, and the power of the spirit is
manifested. The weekly prayers and hymns are an important part of
the spiritual life of our worshippers.
WORSHIP
SERVICES
We offer regular worship services on
Sunday mornings at 9 and 10:30 AM,
and on Saturdays at 5 PM. The 9 AM service is often standing room
only and is filled with families with children, as well as a large
number of retired folks, reflecting the demographics of Prescott.
The 10:30 service is a bit slower paced and doesn't feel quite as
rushed on most Sundays. The Saturday service is our contemporary
worship service, complete with praise hymns and a praise band. It
is a "come as you are" service, so don't expect to see too many folks
all dressed up! All three of these services enjoy the
ministries of our choirs and talented music leaders. Communion is
celebrated at these services on the first weekend of each month.
The
9:00 a.m. service is generally
our most crowded however there is more room on Saturdays and at our
10:30 service. Fellowship Time is a snack and conversation opportunity
that happens in the patio area for everyone between services on Sunday.
Our major parking area is the upper lot on the right as you enter from
Gurley Street, while there is a separate, smaller handicapped lot just
past the Family Life Center on the left.
In addition to these
services, we have a weekly service of Holy Communion in the chapel on
Sunday mornings (except the first Sunday of each month). These
short, informal services are usually attended by about 15 to 20 persons.
Special services are held throughout the year, including
holiday services around Christmas and Holy Week. Baptism,
Confirmation, and Church Membership is celebrated on a monthly
basis. Weddings and memorial services are common
occurrences in our sanctuary as well.
Weddings
Please contact the
church office for more information regarding having a wedding at
Prescott United Methodist Church. Weddings can be scheduled most
weekends with one of our three regular pastors officiating. Due
to our worship schedule, Saturday weddings must conclude before 3 PM.
Baptism and Confirmation
The
sacrament of Baptism signifies a commitment to follow Jesus Christ as
Lord and Savior. We urge people to be baptized in a public worship
service, usually as part of a regularly scheduled service. However, in
some circumstances, private baptisms may be arranged. In our United
Methodist tradition, we practice both infant and adult baptism. Those
baptized as infants are expected to affirm the baptism vows through
confirmation. Youth confirmation classes are offered regularly and an
exciting new adult confirmation course will soon be offered. Please
speak to a pastor for more information about baptism and confirmation.
Memorial Services
The church is always available for memorial services for church members
and friends. Obviously, a memorial service is not something most people
plan for ahead of time. However, we would encourage you to think about
your desires for a memorial service, to speak with a pastor about your
questions, and to pre-plan your funeral arrangements. There are three
local mortuaries in Prescott, and two more in Prescott Valley. Please
contact the church office for more information.
