The Scouting
program at Prescott United Methodist Church is part of the
Discipleship Ministries Committee. It is a program for boys from 6 years of age
(first grade) through 17 years. Boys in the first four years are called Cub
Scouts and the emphasis is on family values and service. Cub Scouts meet weekly
in dens of four to eight under adult supervision, some times with assistance
from a Boy Scout who is called a Den Chief. Once a month all dens get together
in a Pack Meeting. Cub Scouts advance in rank from Tiger to Wolf to Bear to
Webelos. Packs 6 and 7 are currently chartered to Prescott UMC. Each Pack has a
leaders committee with Chairman, Pack Master, Treasurer and ad hoc chairmen for
events such a popcorn sales, Pinewood Derby, etc. Pack 6 usually does very well
in the Pinewood Derby at both the District and State levels. There are 41 boys
in Pack 6 and 18 boys in Pack 7.
Both Packs and the Troop are under the leadership of a parents committee, which is selected by the parents with the exception of the Charter Organization Representative who is selected by the Church. Troop 7 has a Chairman, Scoutmaster and three Assistant Scoutmasters. Packs 6 and 7 and Troop 7 are part of the Old Capitol District of The Grand Canyon Council, Boy Scouts of America.
