PUMC Labyrinth

With the help of about 12 people, from age 12 and up, a 50 x 50 foot prayer labyrinth was installed on the southeast corner of the church property.

Production Crew

Designed after the 9th century labyrinth in Chartre Catheral, France, the labyrinth is available to walk anytime. Labyrinths were used in northern France and England during the middle ages for those who could not afford to take a pilgrimage.

There is a scripture box located next to the labyrinth which will have a short scripture verse on a card for pilgrims to use on their walk, they will be changed weekly. Also, located on the shelf under the scripture box is a hand held labyrinth for those who are physically limited.

There are also walking sticks (fashioned by the Reverend Wes Vesey) for those who would like to use them during their walks.

Labyrinths, unlike mazes, are not meant to be confusing and tricky. By starting at the east entrance (the direction of the resurrection), the path will guide you to the center, and then you can simply walk back out the way you came.

There are also cards available during the Lenten season with eleven meditations on the cross, simply walk the labyrinth with the card until you come to each of the eleven stones located on the path marked with a cross.

Meditate of each phase of Christ's passion as you progress from one cross to the next.
