PUMC Trip to Kenya
June 17 through July 2, 2006

WHERE ARE WE GOING? The area around Kisumu, Kenya
WHY ARE WE GOING? To make a difference in some lives and to change our lives.
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? Meet and help Kenyan Methodists

This is the church when we visited them during our last trip to Kenya.
We may be able to help finish the church building this trip.

We will work with the church on projects that need to be done. The exact projects for this trip are yet to be determined. Depending upon the skills of those going it might be teaching teachers, or finishing building a church, or finish a water project, or paint some buildings. There is more to do than we will have time, energy or money to undertake. As we get nearer, the details will be published.

Here is the crowd where we gave out 300 Mosquito nets for the children.

Dave showing them how to impregnate the Mosquito nets with insecticide.

We will also tour Nairobi and the Kisumu area. Learn Kenyan history. Visit the CDC and Walter Reed Project dealing with indigenous diseases of Kenya—Malaria, AIDs for instance.

We will spend portions of three days and two nights on the Mara at the Mara Safari Club set in the Ol-Choro Oiroua Conservation Area bordering the Masai Mara Game Reserve at the foot of the Aitong Hills. Sourrounded on three sides by the Mara River, all tents have their own private river frontage, with four-poster beds, verandah, electricity, modern suite faciliities with hot and cold running water. Game drives, guided by experienced "driver-naturalists", are provided though a four-wheel drive land-cruiser.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
The actual cost is yet to be determined, but we estimate that we can do all this for under $3000 per person; the cost is to include Airfare, Visa, Required Shots, Malaria Pills, Train Fare, 2 nights at the Guest House, 7 nights in Kisumu, Mara trip, and transportation to the various sites.

The cost for meals is included in the room costs and the local churches will furnish the noon meals. We will need extra money to purchase supplies etc for our projects. $300 to $400 per person would be a good amount to work with. The cost for the shots varies depending upon how many you need. The cost of the rooms will be less if you have a roommate. You will also want some money for souvenirs and other personal purchases.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO NOW? Contact the church either by e-mail to Pastor Nancy or by phone (928)778-1950. Information about visas and immunization is available at the church. Plan to attend the next planning meeting in PUMC's Mary’s Parlor (next meeting scheduled for February 15).
