Santa Dad

I got a call from our son’s second grade teacher, telling me that he seemed to be upset about something. At recess he had spent his play time kicking his lunch box all over the playground.

When our son, Randy, came home, I asked him if there had been a problem at school. I told him his teacher had called me, worried about him. He looked up at me with big, sad eyes and told me that Joey (the neighborhood bully) had been bragging that his father was Santa Claus.

Relieved to know what the problem was, I decided that the time was right for the "Santa talk". Unsure of his reaction, I gingerly told him that everyone’s father was Santa Claus. He thought for a moment, then his face broke into a big grin. "You mean my dad gave me all that neat stuff?", obviously excited to know he was loved so much.

As our Christian faith grows, isn’t it refreshing to see how our seven-year old admiration for our earthly father compares so closely to that of our heavenly father.

How like Randy we are when we realize that all we have comes from Him and we are awed at the depth of His love.
